Welcome, all, to QP Briefing's first attempt at liveblogging something (but that super-slick image above already tipped you off, didn't it?). It's an idea we're trying out as part of our ongoing crusade to provide provincial political coverage so thorough it makes our heads hurt. Maybe we'll stick with it, maybe not. But this is outside our paywall, so tell two friends or something.
Anyway, let's get started on tonight's event: the first Scarborough-Rouge River byelection debate.
The byelection isn't a contest that will topple Ontario's Liberal government if they lose, or that has any serious scandals on offer (yet, anyway; fingers crossed), but surely there's at least some Momentum for the party and candidate that comes away victorious. For reference, the riding was last represented by longtime Liberal MPP Bas Balkissoon, who resigned suddenly in March.
You can watch the debate on Rogers by clicking here. If you've got any issues, complain to us by emailing Geoff (me) here, or by tweeting at us here, here and here.
Here are your candidates this evening:
- Liberal Piragal Thiru
- NDPer Neethan Shan
- Progressive Conservative Raymond Cho
- and many more!
