Hello, and welcome to an annotated, abridged version of the Ontario government’s new long-term care bill, brought to you by Queen’s Park Briefing, using the song lyrics platform Genius.
The Ford government has pitched this bill as an overhaul that will strengthen enforcement and oversight of the sector while delivering more care to more seniors.
Opposition parties and health sector critics say it’s mostly toothless, especially given the provincial government’s reticence to punish bad actors in the past, and the Ford government’s connections to the long-term care industry.
We’ve chopped this bill down to exclude much of what was duplicated from the 2007 Long-Term Care Homes Act so we can focus on the changes, and why they were made.
